Compatibility  /  Benzoyl peroxide × Sunscreen (SPF)

Can you use Benzoyl peroxide with Sunscreen (SPF)?

Separate — AM / PMEvidence · Commonly advised

Best separated by time of day: benzoyl peroxide in the evening, sunscreen in the morning. Benzoyl peroxide is a strong oxidiser and is usually an evening step, while sunscreen is a daytime product, so using each at its natural time sidesteps the question entirely. There is no reason to layer them in the same routine, and skin using benzoyl peroxide has every reason to be protected by day.

Commonly advised: Frequently recommended by formulators; direct evidence can be limited.

In practice: use one in the morning and the other in the evening.
