Retinoids (retinol)

INCI · Retinol

A vitamin-A derivative, used in the evening for the look of smoother texture.

What Retinoids (retinol) layers with
Benzoyl peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide can oxidise and deactivate many retinoids (adapalene is a noted exception). Keep them in separate routines rather than the same layer.

Avoid together
Copper peptides (GHK-Cu)

Often kept in separate routines to limit how many strong actives land at once — copper peptide one part of the day, retinoid the other. A comfort preference, not a hard chemical rule.

Separate — AM / PM
Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid)

A classic AM/PM split — vitamin C in the morning, retinoid at night — mostly for tolerability and because vitamin C suits daytime antioxidant use.

Separate — AM / PM
AHAs (glycolic / lactic acid)

Layering a retinoid with an exfoliating acid raises the chance of visible irritation for many people; alternating on different nights is common.

Use with caution
BHA (salicylic acid)

As with AHAs, combining a retinoid and BHA can be a lot for the skin barrier — introduce gradually or alternate.

Use with caution
