That framing is the first thing to drop, and fixing it makes the choice easy. They aren't two versions of the same job; they're two different jobs that both happen to improve how hydrated skin looks. Where ectoin genuinely pulls ahead

This is the part the "which hydrates better" question misses entirely, because it's not about hydration at all. Ectoin carries two evidence-graded benefits that hyaluronic acid's entry simply doesn't have:

  • The appearance of redness and reactive skin (graded B). Controlled trials report a measurable reduction in visible redness (around 38% in some studies) and in subjective irritation — which is why ectoin shows up so often in sensitive-skin formulas. HA hydrates reactive skin, but it makes no redness claim; ectoin does, on evidence.
