This isn't pedantry. The whole logic of an evidence register is that a molecule earns its grade on its own data, not on the reputation of a neighbour. When a serum leans on the argireline story to sell a different peptide, that's borrowed reputation doing the work - marketing, not mechanism. Acetyl heptapeptide-4 has to stand on what's actually been shown about acetyl heptapeptide-4, and that pile is thin.
The pitch is "neuromuscular": the peptide supposedly interferes with the signalling behind repeated facial movement, so expression lines look softer. It's an appealing story. It also runs into the same wall that limits argireline.
To relax a muscle, a molecule has to cross the stratum corneum - the skin's outer barrier - and reach the neuromuscular junction underneath. Large peptides do this poorly, especially at the low concentrations cosmetics use. So the mechanism that would justify a "freezes expression" claim is exactly the mechanism a topical peptide is least equipped to deliver.
What's left is real but smaller: an appearance-level effect. A smoother-looking surface, perhaps a slightly softened look to movement lines, in the same register as other conditioning cosmetic peptides. That's a fine thing for a serum to do. It just isn't the thing the "topical Botox" language promises.

Judge the whole formula rather than this single name, and keep your wrinkle-erasing expectations for interventions that actually reach the muscle. As a gentle appearance peptide, it earns its place quietly - not at a premium.
