Compatibility  /  Azelaic acid × AHAs (glycolic / lactic acid)

Can you use Azelaic acid with AHAs (glycolic / lactic acid)?

Use with cautionEvidence · Commonly advised

Usable together but ease in, since two exfoliating-type actives at once can over-irritate. Glycolic acid is an AHA that resurfaces, and azelaic acid can add to the load, so sensitive skin may prefer to alternate them on different days or use one in the morning and the other at night. If combined, introduce slowly and watch for stinging or flaking. There is no chemical clash; the caution is about tolerance, not compatibility.

Commonly advised: Frequently recommended by formulators; direct evidence can be limited.
